Transcript of, "DisabilityCounts2020 1/3: Deaf & Disabled Folks Have a Lot To Sign & Say About the Census", produced by Rooted in Rights SPEAKER 1: Do you think people with disabilities count? Then you need to make sure you’re counted as part of the 2020 Census. SPEAKER 2: Every ten years, the Census Bureau counts how many people live in the United States. It’s right in the Constitution. The Census also determines how $1.5 trillion in taxes are distributed to each city, county, and state. Basically, how much taxpayer money your community gets to help run hospitals, fire departments, fix and build roads, and other resources where we live. Not participating in the Census means less funding for supports and services in our communities, and that means fewer resources for you and me. SPEAKER 1: So, can we count on you?
